What you need to know
The Services offer nationally-recognised apprenticeships for most trades and are available to the majority of Regular Service non-officer entrants (but not Military Provost Guard Service personnel) as part of your initial trade training programme. If there is not a suitable Apprenticeship another professional qualification will be offered to you.
Your apprenticeship will be delivered alongside your military initial trade training course. Over 90% of non-officer entrants complete an apprenticeship at Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs), level 3 (equivalent to 2 ‘A’ levels) or level 4 (equivalent to a Foundation degree or the first year of a degree). There is also an increasing range of opportunities for higher-level apprenticeships as your career progresses.
Over 90% of Regular Service non-officer entrants complete a nationally-recognised apprenticeship that is valued both within and outside the Services. Apprenticeships are offered in many different areas including:
- public services and health
- engineering
- telecommunications
- I.T.
- logistics
- business administration
The type of apprenticeship that you will do, will depend on your chosen role or trade.
You will be paid a competitive wage, not an apprenticeship salary, with a guaranteed job throughout and beyond your apprenticeship.
What you need to do
On joining the Services, where appropriate for the trade you will be automatically enrolled on an apprenticeship as you progress through your trade training. There is no individual application required.
