What you need to know

There are strict rules surrounding the wearing of medals and decorations. The latest full list of the British Orders of Knighthood, decorations, medals, and the order of wear can be found in the 2019 publication of the London Gazette.

You should only wear official decorations, medals, or emblems that you are entitled to and what have been approved for acceptance and wear. Unofficial medals should not be worn with official orders, decorations and medals.

An abbreviated list which covers most military purposes is listed at annex B to chapter 12 of JSP 761 Honours and Awards in the Armed Forces.

Coming soon will be the Order of Wear calculator tool. This tool aims to pictorially show you your personalised order to wear. The tool will only include those medals that are approved for acceptance and wear. The MOD Medal Office will be able to answer any further questions about order of wear.
