  • Parental Leave
  • Time off for adoption and antenatal appointments
  • Ex-gratia payment in lieu of Maternity Allowance

What you need to know

Time off for adoption and antenatal appointments is available to all service personnel including Volunteer Reserves on attendance-based pay. It is designed to give paid time off for antenatal and adoption appointments.

It is important that you have read and understood JSP 760 - Tri-Service Regulations for Leave and Other Types of Absences (chapters 24 and 25) before proceeding.

Time off for antenatal appointments

Following notification of pregnancy and the production of a doctor’s certificate, a female service person is entitled to reasonable time off, with pay, to keep appointments for antenatal care made on the advice of a registered medical practitioner, registered midwife or registered health visitor.

Time off for adoption appointments

A primary adopter may apply for paid time off to attend up to 5 pre-adoption appointments. A secondary adopter may apply for paid time off for up to 2 adoption appointments.

What you need to do

Providing the leave entitlement has been added on JPA by your Unit HR Admin, and you have the agreement of your chain of command, if you have a Defence Gateway account you can then book it from your own personal device, using the My Leave app (part of the My Series).

You can also book this leave on the JPA system (gap in info on how to do this).

If you don’t have access to JPA then you should submit JPA Form R001 to your line manager.
