What you need to know

Service in Northern Ireland comes with restrictions on freedom of movement and limited access to local amenities. Northern Ireland Residents’ Supplement makes up for the extra stress experienced by Service personnel who are assigned to Northern Ireland for extended periods of time.

It is important that you have read and understood JSP 752 Tri-Service Regulations for Expenses and Allowances (chapter 8, section 3) before proceeding.

Northern Ireland Residents’ Supplement is available to all Regular Service personnel who are serving on the assigned strength (this is when you are permanently assigned or posted to a unit that is based in Northern Ireland) of a resident unit in Northern Ireland, other than Military Provost Guard Service or if you are assigned to a unit based in Northern Ireland but chosen to work remotely outside of Northern Ireland.

It is also available to mobilised Reserve personnel and Reserve personnel with a Full Time Reserve Service, Additional Duties or Non Regular Permanent Staff commitment who are on the assigned strength of a resident unit in Northern Ireland.

From 1 April 22 the Northern Ireland Residents’ Supplement is a daily rate of £8.58 which you’ll receive via your pay.
