What you need to know
If you live and work in certain locations in London, you could receive Recruitment and Retention Allowance for London (RRA(L)) to compensate for the following:
- stress of commuting
- higher cost of food and beverages
- lack of Service sporting and recreation facilities
- extra travelling to medical appointments you may face when working in the capital
It is important that you have read and understood JSP 752 Tri-Service Regulations for Expenses and Allowances (chapter 8, section 5) before proceeding.
RRA(L) is paid to Service personnel of OR4 rank/Leading Hand/Corporal and below for each day for which full pay is received.
It is paid to regular Service personnel and members of the Reserve Forces undertaking Non-Regular Permanent Staff Service, Full Time Reserve Service or mobilised personnel, who are on a permanent assignment to an establishment in the areas specified below for a period which is expected to exceed 182 continuous days. If you are working remotely, your alternative work address must also be within the specified areas.
The specified areas are:
- inner London (the area within a radius of 5 miles from Charing Cross)
- units within Cavalry Barracks, Hounslow
- units within Woolwich Station
From 1 April 22 the allowance is a daily rate of £4.53 which is paid monthly via your pay.
What you need to do
You do not need to take any action, this will be processed automatically by your Unit HR Admin or Personnel Office as part of the JPA ‘Arrivals Process’.
